What a public adjuster does

Three kinds of adjuster. Only one works for you.

The carrier’s adjuster

Employed by your insurance company.

A staff adjuster works for the carrier and evaluates the claim on the carrier’s behalf.

An independent adjuster

Hired by your insurance company.

Independent sounds neutral. It means an outside firm the carrier contracts with to handle its claims.

A public adjuster

Hired by you. Works for you.

Licensed by the Texas Department of Insurance to represent the policyholder, and only the policyholder.

When to call us

If any of these sound familiar.

Nobody has been out yet

You just had a fire or a major loss and the carrier hasn’t inspected.

The estimate feels low

The carrier’s number came in and it doesn’t match what you’re looking at.

The claim is dragging

Weeks go by. Nobody calls you back. Nothing moves.

The check won’t cover it

You got paid, and your contractor says it won’t cover the work.

It’s a commercial loss

Property damage plus business interruption, and every day closed costs money.

Not sure if your claim is big enough? Send it. We review every claim and tell you honestly what’s there.

Houston policyholders

In their words.

House fire
“Maddie and Dale and the entire team at Crossroads were awesome to work with during our house fire. They made the complex process simple and easy to understand in a time of uncertainty. They were Always easy to access for questions and kept us updated as the process transpired. We could not recommend them any higher and are glad to have found them during this trying time.”

Lightning strike
“Dale showed up at my house a day after lightning hit my roof. I was super hesitant (as with most people who show up at my door) but I’m glad I listened to him. Crossroads helped with pretty much everything from removing all the stuff from our house to going back and forth with State Farm on what they’d be fixing and how they’d be fixing it. Crossroads got them to come up about $50k from the original repair estimate. I’d recommend crossroads to anyone who’s had damage to their house and needs a 2nd set of eyes on the insurance company.”

Stalled claim
“My claim with USAA was a disaster. USAA was playing the ignore me until I went away routine. Out of desperation, I went to Crossroads. It is the best decision I have made in a while. John Terry and crew took over and exceeded my expectations. USAA picked a fight they couldn't win. I wouldn't think about going back if I had a problem.”

Questions

What people ask before they hire us

What does a public adjuster cost?

Nothing upfront. Our fee is a percentage of what is recovered on your claim, and you pay nothing if there is no recovery. Texas law generally caps public adjuster fees at 10% of the amount paid, subject to the limited exceptions in the statute, and every contract carries a 72-hour right to cancel.

Is it too late if I already got a check?

Often not. Claims can be reopened and supplemented when damage was missed or underpriced, depending on your policy and its deadlines. Bring the check details and the estimate to the free review and we will tell you what we see.

My claim was denied, can you help?

A recent denial can often be reopened with proper documentation, depending on the reason for the denial, your policy and its deadlines. Older denials may need an attorney, and we will tell you honestly which is which.

Do you only handle fire?

No. Fire and smoke are our core specialty, and we also handle lightning, water and pipe, storm, and commercial property losses.

Do you work outside Houston?

We handle residential claims across the Houston metro and commercial claims statewide in Texas.

What should I do before you arrive?

Keep everyone safe and do emergency work to prevent more damage. Photograph and video everything, keep every receipt, do not throw anything away, and hold off on signing repair contracts or giving a recorded statement until you talk with us.
