Use the estimate for planning and organize receipts in the private ledger below.
Start with a hypothetical example
These two examples use clearly hypothetical numbers for demonstration. They are not facts about a policy, claim, or household.

Private expense ledger
This ledger is stored only in this browser. It is not part of the estimate link, review handoff, or usage measurement. It leaves the device only when you download a CSV or print it.
These ledger fields are optional local-only notes for organizing displacement expenses. They are excluded from estimates, shared links, intake, and analytics.

Sources and assumptions
- Coverage D wording is a policy-facts prompt, not an automatic coverage decision. ISO HO 00 03 Coverage D is shown as a reference point; endorsements and editions vary.
- A number-of-months mode is shown as a policy time cap and capped-duration scenario; it is not converted into a dollar policy limit or ledger cap without a loss start date.
- Food uses the stated weekly-to-monthly conversion of 52 ÷ 12.
- Mileage uses your rate and includes a note to use the current published rate that applies to your records.
- Negative utility differences stay signed in the subtotal; the final estimate is floored at zero.

Only the estimate values are offered in the private review handoff. The expense ledger remains on this device unless you explicitly export or print it.
The deadline tracker opens a separate worksheet. Enter your claim dates and amount there; no ALE ledger entries or estimate amounts are transferred.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does this additional living expense worksheet estimate?
It estimates the increase in household living costs during a displacement period. It keeps housing, utility, food, mileage, and one-time fees visible as separate records; the policy, endorsements, reasonableness rules, and claim facts determine what a carrier ultimately considers.
How is the Coverage D limit selected?
Choose the mode that matches the policy language: a percentage of Coverage A, a dollar amount, a number of months, or actual loss sustained subject to policy time conditions. The tool does not infer a limit from a generic policy.
Why is the saved mortgage or rent payment conditional?
Only rent can reduce the housing estimate here, and only when the lease ended because of the loss and the household does not still pay rent. Mortgage is never deducted in this illustration.
How is food converted to a monthly amount?
Enter extra meals per week and the user-supplied average meal cost. The worksheet calculates extra meals per week × average meal cost × 52 ÷ 12; it does not subtract normal food a second time.
What mileage rate does the worksheet use?
You supply the rate and days per month; the worksheet calculates miles per day × your rate × explicit days per month and does not hardcode a government or carrier rate. Check the current published rate that applies to your records before adding a mileage entry.
Can a negative category difference reduce the estimate?
Yes. A lower utility cost remains signed in the monthly subtotal and can offset another category. The final additional living expense result is floored at zero, while the category lines remain visible.
